The capital of Texas is known for its live music scene, its tech industry, and affordable living. It features the University of Texas and a warm, eclectic culture. Not surprisingly, Austin, Tx also has its share of celebs who call it their hometown.

Famous singer, dancer, and model Ciara Princess Harris was born in Austin and grew up traveling around the world. Her singing career started with the girl group Hearsay before she kicked out on her own with the triple platinum album Goodies. Her style was unusual and influenced the genre of crunk&B, which is why she’s been hailed as the “Princess of Crunk&B.” She also acts in film and TV and is an ambassador for Revlon. Ciara has won a Grammy and three BET awards. 

Although he spends most of his time in New Orleans these days, Drew Brees was born and raised in Austin. Brees is the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints NFL team. He started his NFL career with the San Diego Chargers, then moved to the Saints in 2006. He helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl and holds eight records in the NFL, including most career pass completions. Brees authored several books. His first book, Coming Back Stronger, was number 3 on the New York Times nonfiction bestseller list.

Although she’s now moved to Los Angeles, Sandra Bullock owned a home for years in Austin. Much of Miss Congeniality was filmed in this city that she says makes her feel comfortable. With roles in film genres from romantic to thriller, Bullock has won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. She is considered one of the world’s most beautiful women, but she’s much more than a pretty face. She has founded her own production company, Fortis Films, and contributed to numerous charities. 

Lance Armstrong is a former professional cyclist, He first became famous for winning seven Tour de France titles and a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Lance Armstrong’s name became notorious in 2012 when he was convicted of having used performance-enhancing drugs throughout his career, resulting in his banishment from all sports. Originally born in Plano, Texas, Armstrong has chosen to stay in his home state and now owns a home in Austin, as well as, surprisingly, a coffee shop. 

As world-renowned actor and alum of UT, Mathew McConaughey’s career has shifted over the years. He started as the hero of romantic comedies such as The Wedding Planner and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. In the 2010s, he moved toward drama, winning an Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club. His acting shift has been nicknamed “the McConaissance.” Born in Uvalde, Texas, McConaughey continues to live in Austin whenever he isn’t on a big film set.
